Police look for two men suspected of fraud

Police are searching for these two men, suspected of fraudulently obtaining payday loans in Halifax.

HALIFAX- Police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two men who fraudulently obtained payday loans in Halifax.

Two unidentified male suspects visited a number of local payday loan lenders and received loans using fraudulent identification cards and forged documents, between March 25 and April 2.

The fraudsters are suspected to have used the same scam at a number of businesses in Ontario. The suspects were captured on video at most of the businesses.

Police remind citizens that identity theft is a reality and has become more common with advancements in technology. It involves the unauthorized collection and use of personal data, usually for criminal purposes.

“Essentially, criminals can use your personal information – your name, date of birth, address, social insurance number, credit card information and other banking details – to create a false identity to open bank accounts, secure credit, obtain utilities and services, rent vehicles, equipment or accommodations and even get a job,” said police.
