CALGARY – A man who went missing near Red Deer on Saturday was found Monday around 2 p.m. in a field less than a kilometre from where he was last seen.
Allan Entwistle has Parkinson’s disease, which can limit comprehension and navigation skills. The 64-year-old suffered a stroke and other complications during brain surgery in December.
He was found south of the Ponoka Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury—where he had last been seen on Saturday—apparently unharmed and able to speak with officers. Ponoka RCMP, a helicopter from RCMP Edmonton Air Services, fire officials and police dog services were deployed to find Entwistle.
“Allan had found refuge in the gully of a large field and due to our air services capability, we were able to locate him in a secluded area which would have not been as easily seen from the ground,” said Ponoka RCMP detachment commander staff sergeant Cameron Chisholm in a release.
RCMP said he suffered from “exposure due to the time he spent outside” but was “well” and taken to hospital for examination.
Entwistle had been granted a 30-minute pass to leave his geriatric psychiatry unit on Saturday, but didn’t return.
