WINNIPEG – Two women jumped from the roof of a burning home to escape the flames early Monday in St. Andrews, Man., fire officials say.
The fire at the two-storey home on Schreyer Crescent broke out just before 1 a.m. and the flames could be seen for miles, fire officials said. The home was completely destroyed by the fire.

“I came straight here as I could see it from my house,” said St. Andrews south fire hall Chief Ken Peacock.
The two women, ages 54 and 61, were trapped on the roof at the back of the home and eventually jumped to escape the fire. They were taken to hospital; one appeared to have broken her ankle, Peacock said.
“I have to credit the help of the neighbourhood. We had a lot of people come by and help me catch the lady off the roof,” he said. “We had no other way to get her down.”
