Saskatoon police air support unit helps track down theft suspect

SASKATOON – A man is facing theft charges after several vehicles were broken into early Thursday morning in the Fairhaven neighbourhood. Saskatoon police were alerted to the break-ins after a man was spotted smashing windows and entering vehicles just after 1 a.m. by a resident on Camponi Place.

Before patrol officers arrived, the air support unit (ASU) was overhead and identified the suspect based on the description given by the witness. ASU members were able to direct officers and a canine unit to the suspect.

He was arrested without incident.

Police say they recovered a number of stolen items including cash, keys, compact discs, cigarettes and a GPS unit. The property was returned to its owners.

A 36-year-old Saskatoon man is scheduled to appear in provincial court Thursday morning on theft charges. His name has not been released.
