WINNIPEG – The North West Company Inc. (TSX:NWC), a food and general goods retailer in the Far North and rural parts of Canada, has appointed former Home Depot Canada president Annette Verschuren to its board of directors.
In a release late Friday, North West called Verschuren “a seasoned executive with extensive experience and significant accomplishments in the retail industry.”

Verschuren joined The Home Depot in 1996 and led the company’s growth from 19 to 179 Canadian stores as head of its Canadian division.

The North West Company operates in northern Canada, Alaska, the South Pacific and the Caribbean.
The Winnipeg-based retailer operates 231 stores under the trading names Northern, NorthMart, Giant Tiger, AC Value Center and Cost-U-Less and has yearly revenues of about $1.5 billion.
