GATINEAU, Que. – The defence lawyer for suspended senator Patrick Brazeau is continuing his cross-examination today of the prosecution’s main witness during Day 4 of his client’s criminal trial.
Brazeau is on trial in Gatineau, Que., for assault and sexual assault charges connected to an alleged incident two years ago.
The female complainant, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, has alleged that Brazeau pushed her down some stairs, hit her head into a wall and sexually assaulted her.
Brazeau’s attorney, Gerard Larocque, has suggested to the trial by judge alone that the complainant instigated the physical confrontation that led to his client’s arrest.
Larocque has also challenged the woman’s credibility, saying she kept authorities in the dark about some details of the February 2013 incident.
During cross-examination, the woman denied Larocque’s charge that she hit Brazeau after he demanded she return a necklace he had given to her as a gift.
