Friends, family use laughter to remember murder victim Jolene Cote

A night of comedy was the main attraction of a fundraiser involving a tragic story, the murder of Jolene Cote.

Friends and family Cote held a silent auction and comedy show in Spruce Grove Monday night.

“Jolene enjoyed a good laugh and we wanted to be able to enjoy ourselves and have fun like we used to with her,” says Cote’s sister Rhonda Berg.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The 36 year old was found dead in her home near Spruce Grove in October. Police have not identified a suspect.

All the proceeds from the night go to the Jolene Cote Memorial trust fund. The money goes toward a reward to find the person responsible for her murder.

The auction had more than 100 items donated from the community.

“It’s just totally overwhelming. We’ve had so much support from the community and so many people that we know, and a lot of people that we don’t know. It’s been just amazing and it helps us for sure,” says Berg, “It doesn’t make the loss any easier, especially with Christmas approaching, but people are helping us wherever they can and that means a lot to us.

Any money left over will go toward Cote’s kids’ post secondary education.
