TORONTO – Toronto police have announced the launch of a crime prevention campaign called Project Blue Ram to help curb criminal activity in the Chinatown area of the city.
The project began March 23 and will last seven weeks targeting auto thefts, shoplifting, panhandlilng, public intoxication, drugs and graffiti.
Police have initiated similar programs in the past by educating residents, business owners and visitors of potential criminal activity.
Police say graffiti and vandalism also continues to be a concern in the neighbourhood.
Authorities are advising community members to contact police if they witness such incidents.
Toronto police maintain the neighbourhood is still very safe and the heightened presence of officers in the area is a proactive approach to community policing.
