With about one week to go to Christmas, two-thirds of Canadians say they have not finished their Christmas shopping. In B.C. 64 per cent of Canadians say they are not done.
These findings, according to a CIBC poll conducted by conducted by Harris/Decima finds that about 65 per cent of Canadians still have shopping to do, and have already spent an average of $433 on gifts this holiday season.
With so little time left, about 24 per cent of people who took part in the poll say they will likely go over their holiday budget as they rush to find all the gifts they want.
In a poll conducted by CIBC in November, Canadians said they planned to spend an average of $628 on their holiday gifts.
“With a majority of Canadians leaving their holiday shopping to the last week, and nearly one-quarter concerned they will exceed their holiday budget, it’s important to keep a close eye on your spending as you cross items off your list over the next few days,” said Colette Delaney, senior vice-president, mortgage, lending, insurance and deposit products, CIBC.
Residents of Manitoba and Saskatchewan appear to be the best budgeters in the country with 26 per cent of people saying they believe they will actually come in under budget for their holiday spending.
