Pothole problem? There’s an app for that

STE-ANNE-DE-BELLEVUE — Some of the bumpiest roads on the island could soon be smoothed out with the help of your smartphone and a new app called Voilà.

It’s a software program that allows residents to report problems of bad roads, water main breaks or any other issue to local authorities.

”People are able to help out in that respect I guess, so it sounds like a good idea to me,” one pedestrian in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue told Global News.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The software literally puts power in the hands of the people, as they become the public watchdogs of their city or town.

The app is featured on Kirkland’s website.

”It helps us to be more efficient, more productive,” said Kirkland Mayor Michel Gibson.

The town of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on the Western tip of the island has received more than 300 messages from the public using the app since it was made available last November, according to Mayor Paola Hawa.

”The intent is to make it faster, more responsive to the issues that are going on in the city at that time,” Hawa added.

More than 100 municipalities have registered for Voilà in the province, but only four on the island of Montreal, including Montreal East, Dorval, Kirkland and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
