Target Canada closing another 62 stores before Easter

Shoppers at a Target store in Toronto queue up during the first day of clearance sales on Feb. 5. Global News Toronto

With 16 down, Target has 117 additional stores to close before it pulls completely out of Canada. And it’s moving quickly to do just that.

The ailing retailer said Tuesday a whopping 62 locations will be shuttered before Easter weekend — or in just over a week — keeping Target on track for a speedy retreat over the border.

Liquidation sales that commenced in early February are now selling remaining merchandise at up to 60 per cent off, according to Target’s advertising.

The widespread store closures will affect more than 17,000 retail workers, a record layoff experts say that will weigh on already sluggish employment figures expected for March, April and May.

The 62 closures (listed below), plus 16 store closures already, will leave 55 locations still in operation after April 2. Target aims to have all Canadian stores closed by mid-May.
