After over a month of being closed, The Ministry of Transportation had estimated Highway 6 would reopen west of the Needles Ferry this Saturday.
That no longer seems to be the case.
According to DriveBC, the road will be closed through till Monday at 9:00 a.m. And according to the Ministry of Transportation, weather could keep the highway closed even longer.
“I’m not quite as confident that it will be open Monday or Tuesday of next week,” said Hugh Eberle, a district manager with the ministry.
The highway has been closed since mid-February when shifting land caused large cracks to form in the pavement.
Eberle says doing work on the road set the process back a few days. He says that once the highway reopens, drivers should feel confident on it.
When the road reopens the affected section will initially not be paved. Drivers have been getting around the closure on a nearby forest service road.
