A wild giant panda is recovering after it was found in poor health in a nature reserve in China’s southwestern Sichuan province, according to the Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV.

The broadcaster showed video on Thursday provided by the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) showing a panda being treated by staff.

A statement from the CCRCGP said the 10-year-old, 65-kilo female panda was found by villagers in the Wolong National Natural Reserve on Tuesday.

A team from the CCRCGP based inside the nature reserve was sent to the site and observed the activities of the panda before doctors decided it was ill.

They were able to capture the panda and took it straight to the CCRCPG medical centre for treatment.

The statement said the panda was diagnosed with renal and liver malfunctions and malnourishment.

However, following a day of treatment, the panda appeared to be on the mend and was starting to eat bamboo, the statement said.
