Premier Greg Selinger’s approval rating up despite turmoil: pollster

WINNIPEG – Greg Selinger remains the least popular premier but his approval rating has improved slightly despite turmoil in the Manitoba NDP, an online survey suggests.

Selinger had a 22 per cent approval rating in an online survey done from Feb. 26 to March 6, the Angus Reid Institute said in a news release Thursday.

While it’s an improvement on the 17 per cent approval rating Selinger had in the quarterly survey in December, it’s still the worst approval rating among provincial leaders. B.C.’s Christy Clark was second lowest at 33 per cent.

Selinger’s approval rating moved upward despite the survey being done during bitter infighting among the Manitoba NDP. The New Democrats held a leadership vote on March 8 in which Selinger eked out a 33-vote win over rebellious former cabinet minister Theresa Oswald.
