It’s not a raceway: RCMP

File / Global News

LAKE COUNTRY — RCMP were busy impounding vehicles this weekend following another crack down on speeders on the new four lane section of Highway 97 between Winfield and Oyama.

They set up two speed traps within five kilometres of each other.

“Drivers that thought they were free and clear to exceed the posted speed limit when they passed one speed operation were in for a bit of surprise when 5km down the road they ran into the second speed control operation,” says Vernon RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk. “For some drivers it a bit of a wake up.”

Molendyk says a total of eight vehicles were impounded for excessive speeds and 50 tickets were issued — a majority for speeding.

Last week, RCMP targeted the same section of highway and impounded eight vehicles.
