The end appears to have arrived for several Target Canada stores that are scheduled to be closed starting next week through March 22.
A company spokesperson confirmed on Friday the retailer will be ending liquidation sales at three locations in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta, and closing their doors for good next Wednesday. Target locations in Stratford, Ont., Longueuil, Que and Edmonton (Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre) are the first three Target stores to close as the U.S. retailer abandons its Canadian expansion plans.
Another 13 locations will be permanently closed on March 22, according to the company – seven locations in Ontario, two in Alberta, two in British Columbia, a location in Manitoba and another in Quebec:
Ontario:
Burlington, Chatham-Kent, Smith Falls, Oshawa, Niagara Falls, Kitchener and one Hamilton location.

The store closures represent the first wave in what will eventually be a total of 133 locations that are closing their doors by the end of May.

Target, which struggled out of the gate when it launched in canada in early 2013, said in January it was finally pulling the plug on Canadian operations, a move affecting about 17,000 Canadian employees.
“Target Canada alerts specific store teams that their stores will be closing approximately 10 days prior to the final day the store is open to the public,” spokesperson Molly Snyder said.
