EDMONTON – Edmonton’s Jelena Mrdjenovich claimed the Women’s International Boxing Association’s vacant featherweight title with a ninth-round knockout of Winnipeg’s Olivia (The Predator) Gerula on Friday night.
Mrdjenovich (26-8-1, 13 KOs) ended the fight 27 seconds into the ninth round with a left hook that left Gerula (13-13-2, 3 KOs) cold on the canvas for several minutes.
That avenged a loss to Gerula in April 2009.
Gerula was a late addition to the card after a wrist injury forced Vancouver’s Sarah Pucek to pull out.
