CALGARY – Two members of local Calgary band Zackariah & The Prophets who were killed in April’s tragic Brentwood stabbings will be honoured this weekend at the JUNO Awards, in a gesture friends are calling “mind-blowing.”
“That’s a musician’s dream in a way,” said bandmate Kyle Tenove. “It’s great. I think they’d be really happy.
“Even though we weren’t famous, had we had the time to keep going we would of made some waves. It’s…mind-blowing, really.”
Zackariah Rathwell and Josh Hunter will be included in the “In Memorium” segment running during the Saturday gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Hamilton Convention Centre. A spokesperson said the JUNOs try to include anyone from the music industry who has passed away in the year since the last awards night.

The rock band had just released their debut recording when Rathwell and Hunter lost their lives last April. Global News reporter Jill Croteau met with Tenove on Monday in the rehearsal studio the band shared.
“A couple weeks after everything happened, I was uncomfortable,” said Tenove. “Seeing the drum set and Josh not sitting there, and Zack not standing over there. It was hard but… some of the best memories I have of them and as a group are in here. I love being in this room.”
Former bandmates and some family members are working on a charity as a lasting legacy to the musicians, as well as planning a second annual concert in honour of all five of the victims.
