Marina Diamandis, aka Marina and The Diamonds. Handout

TORONTO — The third album from Marina and The Diamonds isn’t out until March 16 — but Global News has a preview.

Froot is the first release from Marina Diamandis since 2012’s Electra Heart and features 12 songs.

“I knew it was going to be completely different,” the 29-year-old Welsh singer said of the new album, in a release.

“It’s not about being pop or not pop, or electronic or not electronic, it’s more about feeling the groove in the music and knowing there are real musicians playing it.

“I think it’s something that I’ve been trying to translate for a long time.”

Diamandis wrote the songs herself and co-produced the album with David Kosten. She enlisted musicians from Brit rock band Everything Everything and Jason Cooper of The Cure to play on the record.

As for the spelling of the titles? She told The Guardian: “I just liked the way it looked. I didn’t want it to be the traditional spelling because I thought it looked too serious.”

Marina and The Diamonds will be a part of the Osheaga Festival line-up in Montreal on July 31 and Toronto’s Field Trip on June 7.
