Woman charged with impaired driving after hitting senior on Hwy 105

HALIFAX – RCMP in Cape Breton say a 55-year-old woman faces charges after a pedestrian was struck by a car while walking along a highway.

The accident occurred Sunday on Highway 105 near South Haven.

Police say the driver, from Glace Bay, faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failure to stop or remain at the scene of an accident.

A 75-year-old South Haven woman was seriously injured and police say she remains in a Sydney hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The Mounties say the driver was released and is to appear in court in Baddeck in May.

Highway 105 was closed for several hours to allow for an investigation of the accident scene.
