SAO PAULO – Brazil’s navy says that a huge Korean-built carrier laden with iron ore is disabled in a northeastern port.
The navy says in a statement Tuesday that two ballast tanks of the Vale Beijing sprung leaks on Sunday as it was being loaded in the port of Madeira.

Local media say the vessel is carrying more than 350,000 tons of ore.
The navy says the vessel is being towed away from the port for repairs.

The vessel is owned and operated by Korean shipper STX Pan Ocean and was chartered by Brazil’s Vale SA, the world’s largest producer of iron ore.
Ibama, Brazil’s environmental protection agency says that no iron ore or fuel had spilled into the ocean.
