MONTREAL – Drivers in the Montreal-area who didn’t fill up Monday night may be kicking themselves Tuesday.
The price at the pump has made a considerable leap overnight, reaching around $1.26 from about $114.9 in Montreal.
That’s the second highest in the country after Vancouver, according to Dan McTeague, gas price analyst at gasbuddy.com.
WATCH: Why is gas so expensive in Metro Vancouver?
He says the cold weather in February is to blame for the sudden jump.
The deep freeze has slowed down production at U.S. refineries that produce gas for Canada.

“Over the last 2-3 weeks several have been forced to slow gasoline production rates due to the extreme cold, unscheduled and unforeseen repairs and a labour strikes,”explained McTeague.
Breaking it down: Montreal gas prices
Still, gas prices do remain cheaper compared to last year.
On March 4, 2014 prices were hovering around $140.9 per litre, according to Gasbuddy.com
If you’re really desperate for cheap gas, McTeague suggests taking a drive to Kahnawake, where fuel costs about $108.9.
So when are they predicted to go back down in Montreal?
“The price will fall about 2 cents a day starting Tuesday night on average until it goes to about 112.9 by Sunday,” McTeague said.
“Come Tuesday, the price will likely go back up to $1.22 or $ 1.23 cpl depending on what happens at the New York Mercantile Exchange between now and Friday.”
