REGINA – A provincial partnership to keep old electronics out of Saskatchewan landfills was celebrated with the signing of a new contract Monday afternoon. Environment Minister Scott Moe joined representatives from both SARCAN and the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) to celebrate the renewal of the contract.

Since the program’s inception in 2007, more than 21,000 metric tonnes of electronics, such as computers and televisions, have been diverted from provincial landfills.

“That is three and one quarter million devices, which is mind-blowing if you think about that,” said EPRA’s program director Gayleen Creelman.

The contract officially comes into effect April 1 and will last four years.

The only change from the previous agreement is that SARCAN will no longer be processing and dismantling the devices before brought to EPRA.
