GO Transit bus driver charged after fatal crash on Highway 407

TORONTO – The driver of a GO Transit bus involved in a fatal crash on Hwy. 407 in January has been charged with careless driving.

Donald Bruce Crombie, 66, was driving the bus at the time of the accident, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a press release Monday.

Crombie had 15 years of experience driving buses, GO Transit officials said at the time.

Police said the bus collided with a steel guard rail on the right side of the highway for “unknown reasons” shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 14.

The bus was due to arrive at York University at 10:10 p.m. after leaving Hamilton at 8:30 p.m. There were only six people, including the driver, on the bus at the time of the crash. Three people were injured and one person, 56-year-old Radika Nankissoor was killed during the crash.

Crombie is expected to appear in court on April 10.
