IIO investigating police-involved shooting in Burnaby

WATCH: B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating another officer-involved shooting. Jennifer Palma reports.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is looking into a police-involved shooting in Burnaby early Sunday morning.

Just after 2:45 a.m., two Burnaby RCMP officers on patrol observed what appeared to be a robbery in progress at the 7-Eleven on Canada Way and Edmonds St.

According to the RCMP, officers fired their weapons after their police car was rammed. The suspects left the scene in a vehicle and collided into a fence near the intersection of Canada Way and Rosewood St.

Police tracked down one suspect, who had sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital and is receiving treatment.

A second person was taken into custody without incident.

No officers or members of the public were injured in the incident.

The IIO BC has taken over the investigation and are on the scene.
