KELOWNA — Feeling the itch? There may be a reason for it. Administrative staff at Dr. Knox Middle School in Kelowna sent out an email notice this week, warning lice season has come early.
“With the recent warmer weather, head lice, just like other insects, have become more active, so we are asking parents to please check their children’s hair for signs of lice,” says the email. “The close proximity of many students sharing a common space and often also sharing articles of clothing creates conditions that enables lice to spread more easily.”
The notification didn’t say the school was dealing with any sort of outbreak, but does say “it is vital to follow all steps in order to avoid treatment failure. The best method of treatment for a school population is containment, so if you happen to notice signs of head lice with your child, please inform the school.”
Administrators say if your child does get head lice, it will be kept confidential.
