TORONTO — A Spanish blog has accused singer Enrique Iglesias of the “theft” of $429,000 CDN because his new music video doesn’t show off enough of the country’s beauty.
The government of Galicia, in northwest Spain, reportedly gave Universal Music the money to have Iglesias shoot the video for his song “Noche y De Dia” in the four provinces in hopes of boosting tourism.
But the video, which runs about four minutes and 43 seconds, includes less than a minute of footage that showcases the region. Most of it takes place inside a monestary.

A headline at 20 Minutos reads: “Enrique Iglesias and the alleged theft of € 300,000 Galicians.”
Local newspaper La Voz de Galicia pointed out the clips of various sites around Galicia — including the famous cathedral of Santiago de Compostela — are in the first 45 seconds the video, before the music kicks in, and likely to be cut out of broadcasts.
The video is not set for official release until Friday but Iglesias shared a preview on Instagram.
Several YouTube posts of the video have been removed via copyright claims.
La Voz de Galicia reported that officials believed the investment in production costs for the video would equal about $2 million in traditional advertising costs.
