HALIFAX – Two men accused in the death of a homeless man in Berwick are expected back in court Monday.

Daniel Wayne Surette and Kyle David James Fredericks will be in Kentville Provincial Court for a preliminary hearing.

The pair is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Harley Lawrence.

Lawrence, 62, died in the early hours of Oct. 23, 2014 when a bus shelter on Commercial Street erupted in flames.

The cause of Harley’s death has yet to be determined pending the results of an autopsy.

Police said Surette was arrested in Berwick and Fredericks was arrested in the Halifax suburb of Lower Sackville without incident.

They add neither suspect knew Lawrence but were known to police.
