TORONTO – The province’s police watchdog has been called in after a man died following an altercation with Toronto police.
The Special Investigations Unit says police received a call about a man with a knife in the Spadina Road and Dupont Street area on Wednesday night.
The SIU says a man was shot during an “interaction” with police and was pronounced dead at hospital a short time later.
Paramedics say another man was taken to hospital in serious condition with knife wounds.
No police officers were injured.
The SIU is called in whenever police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been killed, seriously injured or is sexually assaulted.
