Man accused of attempting to smuggle firearms into Saskatchewan

REGINA – A man from Alaska is accused of attempting to smuggle firearms into Canada. Robert Michael Grimsley, 40, was attempting to enter Saskatchewan at the North Portal on Feb. 4 and had not declared any firearms or prohibited weapons.

A search of his truck by border guards turned up three firearms.

Canada Border Services Agency officials found a broken down .45 calibre handgun concealed in the truck. Officers found two long guns, a .50 calibre and a .22 calibre, hidden in a travel trailer.

Grimsley, who is from Fairbanks, Alaska, is facing three charges under the Customs Act and one Criminal Code charge. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Estevan provincial court on March 9.
