REGINA – A local man is about to give up facial hair he’s been growing for more than 30 years, in the fight against cancer.
Don Perron’s brother-in-law was diagnosed with leukemia in December and Perron instantly wanted to do something to help, but his family lives in Ontario.
When chemotherapy caused his brother-in-law, Paul Desormeaux, to lose his hair, Perron decided to join him, shaving his beard in exchange for donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Perron started up a special tribute page for Desormeaux, hoping to raise $1,000 to give back to the society currently helping his family.
The very first day, he blew through his goal and is now sitting at almost $3,700.
Perron says his purpose is simple, “It’s all about donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. If it’s not going to be on this page, just donate. We never know when we’ll be beneficiaries of donations other people have made.”
Perron’s moustache has been around for 30 years and neither his wife nor his children have seen him without it.
He says he’ll start growing it back the minute it comes off.
The shave will take place Saturday morning at Ragged Ass Barbers.
