The first increase takes place on April 1 when police will receive a 2.5 per cent pay increase along with a 0.50 per cent market adjustment.

Changes were also made to the pension plan. A new targeted benefit pension plan will be introduced on Jan. 1, 2016, which will replace the current defined contribution plan.

Officials say the new plan will give officers a better idea of their income in retirement.
