SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615 (ATU 615) are heading back to the bargaining table Thursday.

The talks between the two sides are the first since the city lifted a lockout of transit workers last month after the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board ruled it illegal.

A second lockout notice issued by the city was rescinded after a vote by councillors.

Bus drivers want a bigger wage increase while the city is asking for concessions on the pension plan.

The last offer from the city is a 10 per cent increase over four years along with modifications to the pension plan to address a $6.7 million deficit.

According to city officials, the last wage offer from ATU 615 was a 19 per cent increase over four years.

The union contends the pension plan is not in a deficit and instead has an $80-million surplus.

The parties are expected to meet over the next two days.

ATU 615 members have been without a contract since December 2012.
