EDMONTON — Air Canada’s non-stop service from Edmonton to London, England route is shrinking once again.

“Due to weakness in advance bookings on the Edmonton-London route when compared to strength in other markets to London, Air Canada is modifying its 2015 Summer schedule to better match supply with demand,” company spokesperson Angela Mah said in a statement to Global Edmonton Monday evening.

“As a result, Air Canada’s summer schedule will transition from six times weekly in April, to four times weekly in May, and then three times weekly during the peak summer season from June to October.”

This is not the first time the route has been affected. In 2014, the airline grounded direct flights between the two cities for nearly three months.

That announcement came just a month after it was revealed that a non-stop Icelandair flight between Edmonton and Reykjavik, Iceland was being added to the international airport. The flight was touted as a way to offer Albertans better access to many destinations in Europe.

In its statement on Monday, Air Canada maintained that it “remains committed” to its operations in Edmonton and explained that it plans to increase flights this summer to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
