TORONTO – The Toronto Sun was reportedly going to break new ground on Friday when it would – reportedly – unveil its first topless Sunshine Girl.
The Sunshine Girl – a staple of Quebecor newspapers – is a photo of a scantily clad girl on the second last page.
Mike Strobel, a columnist for The Toronto Sun, wrote in a column that the newspaper should show topless photos of women in order to make men smarter. He writes, “Imagine how quick-witted you’d be if the SUNshine Girl was topless like the Page 3 Girls of our British namesake.”

After speaking with The Sun’s editor-in-chief, he told Global News that the sunshine girl will – in fact – not be topless.
Strobel is referencing a study from Finland, where researchers showed both men and women photos of clothed women and unclothed women. The researchers found that the brain processes photos of unclothed people faster than their clothed counterparts.
The study does not claim that the faster brain response to images of scantily-clad, or nude people, results in a smarter individual.
The study concluded that the brain processes the photos of unclothed men and women faster than their clothed counterparts. The study concludes that the enhanced stimulation of nude-bodies over clothed bodies is “a mechanism possibly beneficial in identifying potential mating partners and competitors.”
