VANCOUVER – The baby pulled from the Puntledge River on Vancouver Island last Friday is slowly improving says his father.
Seven-month-old baby Grant was pulled from the river after some people noticed him and his mom in the water just before 3 p.m. He was quickly taken out of the river, and eventually airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital, but it took crews until 4 p.m. to rescue his mom, Veronika. She did not make it and died in hospital.
It is not known how the two ended up in the river in the first place.
Grant’s father Doug has been updating the GoFundMe page with his son’s condition.
On Wednesday he wrote:
Tonight grant opened his eyes and had a look around. I was so happy to be at his side. The professionals at BC children’s hospital are doing an amazing job helping my little miracle along. Today was a good day.
Again thank you everyone for your support.
He is also moving his legs and feet a little, but is still in critical condition at BC Children’s Hospital.
