Montreal couple’s proposal goes viral

MONTREAL – Pilot David Lang and his girlfriend Athena Codutti have been dating for six years and recently were engaged. A YouTube video of the Montreal couple’s wedding proposal has gone viral.

Like many couples, David and Athena took photos of one another and the places they visited. But these two romantics raised the Kodak moment to another level.

They took photos of themselves holding different letters in front of famous monuments around the world, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Coliseum in Rome. Eventually, these letters would spell out the phrase “We always knew.”

When it came to their final letter, the destination was their hometown, Montreal – and Athena was in for a surprise. With the help of friends and bystanders, David planned to propose as they snapped the photo for the last letter.

At the top of Mount Royal on the Kondiaronk Belvedere, which overlooks the downtown Montreal skyline and the Saint Lawrence River, the couple had their photo taken with the letter “w”, the last letter of “We always knew,” as two bystanders secretly unfurled a banner behind them that read “Will you marry me?”

Then, while looking at the photo together on the camera, David bent down on one knee and proposed as the banner was revealed in the photo. Athena burst into tears and said “yes.”

With the help of a local production company, David produced a moving video showing the images and the proposal and set to the music of Montrealer, Brittany Kennell. It’s gone viral with half a million views in less than a week.

Correction: Richard Hope and Samantha Dufour were incorrectly named as the happy couple. In fact, they are credited in the video, as they helped David with his proposal by taking the photographs and helping unfurl the banner.
