Polygamy law valid, B.C. court rules

The BC Supreme Court has ruled Canada’s laws against polygamy are constitutional.

But it has also decided that the laws should not be used to prosecute child brides.

The province asked the court to examine the law after the failed prosecution of two leaders from the religious commune of Bountiful.

Legal observers believe the case will be appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
