TORONTO – Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is planning to open its first hotels in Colombia by the end of this year – two luxury properties in the capital, Bogota.

The Toronto-based chain said it is partnering with the Gilinski Group conglomerate to manage the hotels, which have been closed since December for renovations.

It said Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogota (formerly Hotel Casa Medina Bogota) is a historic property in the city’s financial centre, while the contemporary Four Seasons Hotel Bogota (formerly Hotel Charleston Bogota) is located in the shopping heart of the city.

Allen Smith, Four Seasons president and CEO, said luxury travel is increasing in South America, both for business and leisure, and that the company has been looking for the right opportunity to enter the Bogota market.

“This represents a significant step in continuing to grow our footprint in South America,” Smith said.

Four Seasons operates 95 hotels and residences in 39 countries – in South America its existing properties are in Argentina and Uruguay – and has more than 60 projects in development.
