City approves zoning changes for River Landing project

Saskatoon city council has approved zoning bylaw changes for Victory Major’s River Landing project, one that could make one of the buildings in the project the tallest in Saskatchewan. 

City council unanimously approved the zoning change for the the $200-million condo, hotel, retail and office project. 

“We have great faith in the project and the community needs the project and we’ll be doing all we can to make sure we finish the project,” said Karim Nasser of Victory Major Investments Corp.

With the zoning bylaw changes, the condo could now rise 27 stories above the ground, making it the tallest building in Saskatoon and one of the tallest in Saskatchewan. 

The preliminary design also includes a 10 story hotel tower and a 17 story office tower. The entire complex would be anchored by an urban plaza that could serve as a civic gathering place.

Victory Major is hoping to have the shovels in the ground by the summer. 

Also on Monday, city council deferred a decision to hire five civilian community officers to deal with panhandling in the downtown core until the December 5th meeting. 

Council also received the third-quarter budget results showing a projected deficit of $661,000.
