WATCH: There’s a lot of angry reaction to the provincial government’s decision to raise camping fees. And while the hike is meant to keep the parks sustainable and attract more users, as Kylie Stanton explains, it may actually have the opposite effect.
As of March 15, 2015, the Ministry of Environment will raise camping fees at provincial parks; it will be the first system-wide fee increase since 2010. According to the ministry, the fee raise is to maintain high service levels in the parks which are seeing an increasing number of visitors each year.

“By increasing user fees in campgrounds, campers who use the parks system are helping to keep it sustainable for future generations to enjoy,” says Minister of Environment Mary Polak.
The fee increase is expected to generate $1.3 million this year.
Most campsites will see a $2 per night increase; the maximum increase is capped at $5 per night. The fee increase will affect campers at Okanagan Falls, Fintry, Kekuli Bay, Mable Lake, Haynes Point, Ellison, Bear Creek, Okanagan Lake and Okanagan Mountain provincial parks.
