TDSB accepts changes proposed by province after scathing report

In an emergency meeting on Monday, the Toronto District School Board voted to comply with all the changes recommended by the province.

A scathing report was released last week, detailing a “culture of fear” at the board, with employees fearing their e-mails and telephone calls were monitored. It also criticized trustees for interfering with schools and hiring, and included a pay cut of $17,000 to board director Donna Quan’s salary.

Liz Sandals, Ontario’s Education Minister, called the allegations “appalling” and gave the board four weeks to adopt 13 recommendations. She told the board she would look at appointing a supervisor if the changes aren’t made.

Trustees will hold four more public meetings before the deadline next month.
