VERNON – Vernon’s fire department has a new station. The long awaited facility in the resort community of Predator Ridge became operational Tuesday.
“The hope is our response time is quicker,” says fire chief Keith Green. “If we do have a grassfire up here,… we have a quick response time and can mitigate it quickly before it gets out of control.”

The station opening is the realization of an idea long discussed.
“We’ve been pushing for it for awhile and it was being delayed and delayed for all sorts of reasons but now it is here [and] we are very excited about it,” says resident Bob Scott a member of the Predator Ridge Community Emergency Management Committee. “Now that we’ve got our own fire hall the feeling of security is definitely improved.”
The station has yet to get its first callout.
