KELOWNA – The owners of a medical marijuana dispensary in Kelowna could be charged after police seized cannabis and related products during a search warrant raid Thursday afternoon.
Police say staff of the downtown Kaya Clinic were present during the raid but no arrests were made.
Officers took away more than 12 lbs. of dried marijuana and dozens of marijuana derivatives including oils, tinctures, teas, butters, candies and cookies.
RCMP say marijuana is a controlled substance under federal laws and they have an obligation to investigate possible offenses.
“There is no legal mechanism available in Canada today which allows for a self-described medical marihuana dispensary or compassion club to function,” says Cst. Kris Clark.
He says police are continuing to investigate and the owners of the business could possibly be charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
