WINNIPEG – As temperatures rise, city crews are dropping salt on Winnipeg streets.
The city announced Wednesday that trucks are applying salt to “Priority 1 (Regional) and Priority 2 (Collector/bus route) networks.”
Salt becomes more effective on streets in warmer temperatures, forecast to reach -5 degrees Celcius Wednesday. It will help melt any new snow that falls, as well as the icy ruts that remain on many streets.
“The focus will be on restoring bare pavement on our Regional and Collector/bus networks,” the city said in a news release.
The city’s annual snow route parking ban remains in effect: parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets displaying “Snow Route” signs.
