Police cruiser hit during car chase

WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man is in custody after a police chase and crash with a marked cruiser.

Officers were patrolling Home Street at around 11:00 p.m. on January 1 when they saw a vehicle running with two people inside.

The driver in the car sped away from police. Officers say that at one point during the chase, the driver purposely collided with a marked cruiser and then drove away.

One of the two officers in the cruiser had minor injuries from the crash.

AIR1 crews quickly found the speeding vehicle and police eventually stopped it on Burrows Avenue.

The 43-year-old driver is facing charges of assaulting an officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The 40-year-old female passenger was released from custody without charge.
