WATCH: Chinese shepherds celebrate Year of the Sheep with sheep races and beauty contest

Shepherds in parts of China Wednesday brought their finest rams and ewes to participate in sheep races and a beauty contest as part of efforts to welcome the upcoming Year of the Sheep.

Shepherds turned up with their sheep wearing red paper flowers and cheered at the finish line in Shafan Village of Dexing City in east of China’s Jiangxi Province. A total of three sheep participated in the race, bringing happiness and a festive atmosphere to local villagers.

In southwest China’s Guizhou Province, a beauty contest for lambs debuted in Pingtang County Wednesday to celebrate the new year.

Contestant lambs were delicately dressed with colorful ribbons and hair accessories, and judges from the local county committee scored all the lambs for their appearances, body shapes and health.

The owner of the champion lamb was presented with a lamb as a reward, according to local officials.
