UPDATED: Salmon Arm teen killed in weekend snowmobiling accident

VERNON – A 16-year-old boy from the Salmon Arm area is dead after a snowmobiling accident northeast of Enderby Sunday morning.

The teen, identified by the BC Coroners Service as Brandon Edward Ouellette, and his father were out with a group of people in the Hunter’s Range snowmobiling area.

Police say the boy became separated from the group.

“It is believed he hit a snow bank and the snow machine flipped on top of him and he was trapped underneath it in the snow,” wrote North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk in a release.

RCMP say the boy’s father tried to radio his son but the teen didn’t respond.

“We don’t know exactly what the cause [of death] was whether it was the fact that he was trapped or an injury resulted in his death,” says Molendyk.

RCMP called in Vernon Search and Rescue who deployed a helicopter with a doctor and paramedics. However, the teen was pronounced dead on the way to Vernon.
