CALGARY – RCMP and Parks Canada are investigating after a Calgary woman was found dead in the Banff backcountry.

Investigators say the woman, in her mid 50s, had been on a solo cross-country skiing trip near Sunshine Meadows in Banff National Park.

She was reported missing when she failed to show up for a meeting with her family on Saturday.

RCMP and park officials launched an investigation, and the woman’s body was found early Sunday morning.

Rescue crews were unable to resuscitate her.

Investigators believe she became disoriented and succumbed to exposure.

The woman’s identity has not been released.
