HUMBOLDT, Sask. – A Humboldt, Sask. man had a million reasons to celebrate two months ago but a good reason to keep it a secret – even from his wife. Ken Frank wanted to ensure an important family event went off without a hitch.

“My daughter was getting married, and I didn’t want to take away any of the attention,” explained Frank.

Frank bought his ticket from a Humboldt Shoppers Drug Mart the Oct. 15 Lotto 6-49. When he checked his ticket the next day, Frank saw he won a free-play. Then he looked at the guaranteed $1-million prize number.

“I looked at it four or five times. I put it away, came back and looked again. I did that for three or four days straight. It was shock, disbelief.”

The ticket was stored under a writing pad on his desk until he was ready to claim his prize. He planned to surprise his wife with news of the windfall over a special pre-Christmas dinner.
